I held my first art exhibition in August 2022, taking part in my village's festivities.
It was a last minute decision and I was painting with oils in July, and 40+ªC, and I have no airconditioning. The paint was drying overnight - absolute learning process but went with the flow! My works were all about how nature is a great teacher in the art of adapting to challenging circumstances. All works were inspired by the nature that surrounds me in Mallorca. The Fig Tree, left, is in the car park opposite my flat and is a survivor of the terrible floods the village of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar had in October 2018. A fig tree is grey and lifeless until suddenly citrus green shoots appear.
FLOWERING, oil on canvas. 1x1m. Painted in May 2020 when we were all in lock-down due to the coronavirus. I missed Spring. Only had fleeting glance from my car window when doing my weekly food shop.
Searched "blossom" on web and one image was Van Goch's "Almond blossom". The back ground colour is inspiring. I had a go! and this picture hangs above my desk and changes throughout the day with the sunlight through the window. I love it and am greatful to be able to do this.
Check out the web of the Van Goch Museum in Amsterdam. The image quality is excellent and you can see the artist's brushstrokes and pieces of blank canvas. I learn so much from studying other artist's work. https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en
